Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp has finally announced Communities, a feature that has been spotted in the testing phase before.

The company said, "Since WhatsApp launched in 2009, we've been focused on how we can help people have the next best thing to an in-person conversation

This new feature is more like a Group of Groups. The reach of communities can be much higher than normal WhatsApp groups.

The new Communities feature would offer powerful new tools to admin like hosting sub-groups and announcements messages.

WhatsApp believes that many group chats will transition to the more structured Communities when the feature launches.

Alongside Communities, WhatsApp also announced some other group features that will roll out in the coming weeks (before Communities are ready)

Emoji Reactions: Emoji reactions are coming to WhatsApp so people can quickly share their opinion without flooding chats with new messages.

Admin Delete: Group admins will be able to remove errant or problematic messages from everyone’s chats.

File Sharing: WhatsApp is increasing file sharing to support files up to 2GB so people can easily collaborate on a project

Larger Voice Calls: WhatsApp is introducing one-tap voice calling for up to 32 people with an all-new design
