Poco M4 5G Review

Poco M4 5G has its Pros from 90Hz Refresh Rate to Android 12 OS out of the box but Poco has done some compromises in the device by providing 5G connectivity on it which can be a letdown for some users who are not looking just for a 5G smartphone.

Let’s go deeper and see what Poco has offered in its Poco M4 5G smartphone.

Display

The Poco M4 5G has a 6.58-inches FHD+ IPS LCD Display with 2400 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, 90Hz Refresh Rate, 240Hz Touch Sampling Rate, and 20:9 Aspect Ratio.

The smartphone has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Protection on the top while the back panel and frame of the device are made out of plastic.

Here, Poco should provide an AMOLED Panel of at least with 60Hz but they didn’t, instead of that they went with a 90Hz IPS LCD Display. Also, at this price, all the devices have AMOLED without the 5G support, so yes, can’t complain much.

As the phone comes with an IPS LCD panel, hence it can’t have an in-display fingerprint sensor and that’s why Poco has added the side-mounted fingerprint in the power button.

The fingerprint scanner is fast and accurate, no issues there, its works like a normal side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The display is also bright enough to use on outdoors.

Poco M4 5G Display

Overall, the display quality of the phone is good considering the price.

Cameras

The smartphone comes with a dual rear camera setup with an LED flash and Poco branding in the rectangular module that houses a 50MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, and a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

There is an 8MP Selfie Camera Lens with f/2.45 aperture in the waterdrop notch design display. Both the front and rear cameras can record up to 1080p videos at 30fps.

The 50MP primary sensor takes some good shots under good lighting conditions but it suffers in low light or night photography. Also, there are some issues in the dynamic range.

Now, forget that 2MP macro sensor as it’s added just for number. Here, Poco should have included the 8MP ultrawide instead of that 2MP sensor, but they didn’t.

The 8MP selfie camera does not capture great shots, it’s just okay, as this is only an 8MP sensor, it loses out on details and has the same dynamic range issue. Here, again, Poco should have included a 16MP Selfie Camera lens but they didn’t.

Poco M4 5G Cameras

Overall, the cameras of the phone are good, and it’s not the best considering the price, but again, as it is a 5G device, so the company has compromised a little bit in the cameras department.

Performance

Under the hood, the smartphone features an octa-core Mediatek Dimensity 700 Processor which is coupled with Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.

It comes with up to 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 2.2 Storage. There is also a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion of up to 512GB.

The device also runs on Android 12-based MIUI 13 skin out of the box. Now, this is the first Poco smartphone and the cheapest in the segment that comes with Android 12 OS out of the box which is a good thing.

The Poco M4 5G also has Virtual RAM or RAM expansion feature. However, the feature is totally a gimmick and used only for marketing purposes by brands and has no use in real-life, so forget about that.

Poco M4 5G Performance

Overall, the performance of the device is good considering the price and you will not any kind of issues.

Battery

The Poco M4 5G packs a 5,000 mAh Battery with 18W Fast Charging Support. Poco has provided a 22.5W Charger in the box.

The battery will last for a day easily if you are a normal user while if you play lots of games, then you will have to charge the device two times in a day.

Overall, the battery of the device is also good.

Audio

The device does not have stereo speakers, it only has a single speaker which is loud good but not that great. Also, Poco (or Redmi) is known for providing dual speakers at this price, but this time Poco has ditched it by providing the 5G support.

Also, the smartphone does not have a secondary noise-cancellation microphone, so another person on the call might have a problem hearing your voice during the call. However, it has a 3.5 mm Headphone Jack to plug your wired earphones on the device.

Overall, the audio quality and the call quality are good in the 5G phone market but it’s not that good if you compare all the devices at this price.
