But with the new features introduced by Instagram, users will now be able to stop strangers from sending you DMs and commenting on your posts.

Limit your DMs and Comments

The new feature is called “Limits”. After turning this feature on, it will stop anyone who does not follow you, or who recently followed you, from commenting in your posts or sending you a message.

Instagram said that they developed this feature because they heard that creators and public figures sometimes experience sudden spikes of comments and DM requests from people they don’t know. Now, if you are going through that, or think you may be about to, you can turn on Limits and avoid it.
